Conventions & Clubs

If you know of a convention or club that includes miniature games, please e-mail them to bill@game.fan.org and I will include it here.

ICD, Decatur IL Wargame Club Il Duce, Bill Owen

While I have no convention here, we have games in Decatur or Springfield. Our usual locations are:

  1. Franklin Mall, 304 S. Franklin St., Decatur IL ...this is downtown across from Law Enforcement Center/County Building on Business Route 51 North (Franklin St) in a small mall building called Franklin Mall.
  2. Bill Owen's house in Decatur... 8 Edgewood Ct (W side of Decatur).
  3. Scott Wilhelm's house in Springfield... 3613 Melissa Dr (NW side of town). Directions from Springfield's Hwy 4 (Veterans Parkway), turn west onto Washington St Rd, turn north onto Koke Mill Rd, left onto Briana Dr, right on Clipper Dr and left onto Melissa Dr.
  4. Mark Whitehead's house... 1325 E John St, Decatur IL. (SE side of Decatur). His house is about 5-6 blocks east and a few blocks south of the downtown area. Find Wood St in front of the County Courthouse downtown (between S Main & Franklin St) and go East on Wood St... turn right (south) on Jasper for about 2 blocks before you see John St, turn Left (East) and you'll see his house.

I will try to remember to post the planned games here but if you don't see something, send me an urgent dispatch by your most reliable courier: (NEW, permanent e-mail address) bill@game.fan.org. If you don't get e-mailed notices, let me know that you want one... if you get the notices and don't want them, let me know that too!

NEXT GAME IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS:

5/2/09 to 5/9/09 ?? AM or PM Saturday-Saturday Bill Owen's basement (see above). CD:TOB ICD TRAINING on this rule set (Command Decision: Test Of Battle is the 4th edition of CD). We are running a 7-day straight series of training games, all the same scenario (#1 from Benghazi Handicap, the first tank action between the Brits and Italians). Again using CD tob rules  I will be refereeing and using hidden counters and the new micro-orders system.

We are exposing CD to NEW players, RUSTY old players, COCKY know-it-all players... and people with really GOOD EYES: the troops used will be 3mm PicoArmor from Poland! Call Bill Owen for an OPEN TIME: 454-4525.

CD tob is much simplified from CD3 and yet has added some very astute suppression features that will make this a better game for the effort www.g-design.us/cd

Wargamer Travel Opportunity: I arranged the 1991 MILLENNIUM OF MAYHEM tour with James F Dunnigan and Al Nofi, the 1997 Tanks For The Memories, 2003 WARGAME YOUR WAY ACROSS EUROPE plus several Napoleonic Re-enactor tours. Uniquely & professionally designed for wargamers!

This tour will be next year in May or July 2010. Incidentally, this is what I do for a living for last 35 years so please forgive me for breaking ranks from strictly wargaming only topics)

We will be meeting European gamers at 2 clubs in the first 2 stops (my contacts names shown in parenthesis; we met the first time in 2003's WYWAE tour)... and visiting castles, battlefields & tank museums at other stops!

  1. Ghent, Belgium (Edwin van der Straeten)
  2. Poiters, France (Francis Garnier)
  3. Saumur, France
  4. Normandy
  5. Verdun
  6. Waterloo

This is a PARTIAL & tentative list of visits! We will also include items of interest for your WIFE who you have promised to take to Europe for several decades now! Shopping, wine (and Belgian beer) tasting etc.

For more information about this tour, e-mail bill@TourGroupPro.com or call me, Bill Owen, (217) 422-5002 extension 12 (tollfree 800-386-4777)... on contact my company: TourGroupPro.com, PO Box 711, Decatur IL 62525.

Other games in Central Illinois: CITW (Central Illinois Tabletop Wargamers)

  • CITW has a Yahoo group and meets at various towns around Central Illinois, monthly.
  • Winter War (which is really separate from CITW), will be held, as usual, the first weekend in February. For anyone who wants to run a game, Con info and judges forms can be found at their Yahoo group.
  • I try to list next month's meeting here but the most reliable way to get notice is to contact Tom Reed who will put you on the e-mailing list.
